So many websites, so little time

One of the things I'm trying to get better at is keeping an eye on the pages of websites of organisations I'd like to work with. Not as easy as it sounds when you have a portfolio career and a broad range of interests.

Sure, I keep up to date through Twitter but when it comes to specific opportunities to bid for work, I want a way to hear about them as soon as they are posted on the pages of websites that don't necessarily find their way into other forums that are easier to track. This is how I discovered www.changedetection.com - it's not much to look at but it cleverly allows you to enter the details of specific pages you want to monitor for changes. In this regard it's useful for all job hunters not just portfolio careerists as you can receive an email notification as soon as a jobs page of specific organisation's website is updated.

Granted, it can be annoying if the site in question regularly updates other elements of the page other than the main content you're interested in but you can tweak the settings to only receive notifications of substantial changes. Well worth a look.

  1. Just to update this post to say that since I started monitoring pages as described, I have successfully secured two significant pieces of work from organisations exactly in my fields of interest - thank you changedetection.com!
